About the Expert

Dr. Matthew Hanka is a Professor of Political Science. He earned a bachelor's degree in history and politics from The Catholic University of America, a master's degree in political science and a doctorate in urban and public affairs from the University of Louisville. Hanka was hired in 2010 as the first full-time Director of the Master of Public Administration Program. He is the author of What is Happening in Your Community? Why Community Development Matters. He has completed a book on the Louisville-Jefferson County, Kentucky, merger and is currently researching and writing a third book focusing on Washington D.C.'s voting rights and statehood. Hanka served as the Director of the Commission on Homelessness for Evansville and Vanderburgh County, was the co-chair of Housing Organizations United Serving Evansville (HOUSE), currently chairs the Evansville Affordable Housing Trust Fund Advisory Committee and is a newly appointed member of the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Human Relations Commission.
