Certificates of Recognition Awarded at the 2025 Norwegian Foot March

USI hosted its 21st Annual Norwegian Foot March (NFM) on Saturday, November 15. This event is known for its demanding mental and physical challenges. Over 300 participants carried a 25-pound rucksack and completed an 18.6-mile course within strict time limits. Participants were encouraged to use non-perishable food items as their required weight to donate to Archie’s Food Closet.

ROTC cadets, active duty and reserve service members, veterans and civilians are eligible to participate in this yearly event. The march drew participants from 22 states across the United States; from California to New York, Wisconsin to Florida. Those who finished within the allotted time received a certificate of completion, an official badge and a commemorative T-shirt.

During this year’s NFM, certificates of recognition were presented to faculty, staff and organizations that have consistently supported the event through their services. Honorees included the USI Nursing Program, Rita Brunner with USI Outreach and Engagement, Perry Township Fire Department and the 18th Indiana Light Artillery.

The USI Nursing Program was recognized for providing faculty and students to administer first aid and mental health support during the march for many years.

Rita Brunner was honored for her dedicated service to NFM, by overseeing both online and on-site registration for 15 years.

The Perry Township Fire Department was recognized for its continuous support for providing the American flag and the 18th Indiana Light Artillery, a historical reenactment group based in Indianapolis, was commended for enriching the event experience by providing a historical 10 Pound Parrott Rifle cannon used to start each heat.

The Norwegian Foot March is an annual event hosted by USI ROTC in partnership with Dr. Nils Johansen and the Norwegian Military.
