Nutrition and Wellness Specialty

USI’s Nutrition and Wellness specialty within the Food and Nutrition Program prepares you for employment in a variety of food and nutrition-related jobs. While in the program, you will study foods and their nutrients, physical fitness, ways to age healthily, wellness and how to apply nutrition education principles to individuals and large groups. Rounding out this required portion of the curriculum, a senior capstone course provides an in-depth analysis of current food and nutrition issues and assists in preparing you for actively entering the job market. Further supporting the transition to the working world, you may also be placed in a food and nutrition related practicum beginning in the junior year if qualifications are met. Additional elective hours are available to allow you to pursue even more specific expertise in the areas of physical activity and nutrition or expand your knowledge of other areas such as gerontology, public health or worksite wellness.
