President's Medal

The President's Medal has been awarded each year since 1984 to the graduating senior who exemplifies a dedication to academic excellence and service to both the University of Southern Indiana and the community.

Eligible applicants should review the guidelines and complete the application before submitting all required materials by the deadline of December 5, 2025.

Please note that application is by invitation only.

Award Eligibility and Selection

Award Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.70.
  2. Applicants must have completed at least 75 hours at the University of Southern Indiana at the time of application.
  3. Students must have applied for either fall or spring graduation. The President's Medal is given at the spring commencement and regardless of when the award recipient chooses to graduate, the student must be present to receive the award at the spring commencement exercises.

Application Procedure

  1. The completed application form is to be submitted electronically to the Chair of the Student Affairs Committee at usi1presmedal@usi.edu.
  2. A one-page typed, single-spaced, Arial, 12-point font, 1-inch margins, narrative about the applicant's commitment to academic excellence and service to the University of Southern Indiana and community. Narratives should include experiences from the applicant's time at the University and (briefly) include future plans.
  3. Exactly three letters of recommendation. One letter from a faculty member from the student's major program is required. The other two letters of recommendation are the applicant's choice. See the Letter of Recommendation document.
  4. All documents must be submitted as PDF files.
  5. All materials must be submitted by: December 5, 2025. Incomplete applications or those which do not follow the application procedure (see below) will be automatically disqualified.

Selection of the Award Recipient

  1. Interviews will be scheduled with those students considered by the committee who show the strongest commitment to academic excellence as well as service to the University and the community.
  2. A recipient will be selected based on the application information, letters of recommendation, and interview.
  3. The Chair of the Student Affairs Committee will notify the President'sOffice of the committee's selection.
  4. The recipient will be notified of the award by the President's Office, and a meeting with the President will be scheduled at that time.
