With the threat of winter weather forecasted for January 24-25, students and employees are asked to be careful when walking about campus.
Here are some strategies to prevent flips and falls when walking in snowy and icy conditions:
- Wear shoes that provide good traction and are appropriate for the conditions.
- Don’t take shortcuts—stay on paths that have been treated and cleared.
- Pay extra attention to the walking surface. Avoid looking at your phone.
- Anticipate slippery conditions, slow down and take your time when walking in winter weather conditions.
- Be extremely careful getting out of your vehicle—steady yourself on your doorframe until you have gained your balance.
- Turn your feet slightly outward and take smaller flat-footed steps on slippery surface; this will help you maintain your balance.
