Dr. Daria Sevastianova, Associate Professor of Economics, and Amanda Geiger co-hosted a personal finance webinar, "Careers, Choices and Their Effect on Income" on August 20 for USI's Center for Economic Education and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The program, which was designed for K-12 educators, explored decision-making, career paths, and income factors aligned with personal finance standards implemented by the state of Indiana in May 2023. Indiana was the 19th state to adopt the requirement for a stand alone course in personal finance that will affect high school graduates beginning with the class of 2028.
The webinar provided teachers with free Federal Reserve resources and one hour of professional development credit. While the Center previously hosted the in-person “Camp Econ South” in Santa Claus, IN, the virtual format has proven more convenient for educators across the state. Looking ahead, Dr. Sevastianova plans to expand programming in collaboration with Purdue University and the St. Louis Federal Reserve to further support teachers in meeting the state’s new financial literacy standards.
