What are SI Study Groups?
SI, Supplemental Instruction, Study Groups is a voluntary program that offers free, regularly scheduled study groups for traditionally difficult courses. SI Study Group sessions are led by an undergraduate student Study Group Leaders who have previously taken the course and demonstrated academic competency in the subject area, typically by passing the course with an above average letter grade. Each SI Study Group Leader facilitates two study sessions per week. Check your syllabus to see if SI Study Groups is offered for your course.
When are SI Study Groups?

Log into your myUSI and click the Academic Success Center to search for available SI Study Group Sessions for your course. You can follow the step by step instructions below, simply choose "SI Study Group" instead of "Tutoring".
Why SI Study Groups?
Students who participate in SI Study Groups:
- Learn the study skills necessary to succeed in the courses.
- Work collaboratively with peers in an open, friendly, and non-judgmental environment.
- Receive support from an extensively trained, educated SI Leader.
- Achieve higher academic success in the courses
SI Study Group Leaders
SI Leaders are current USI undergraduate students who have successfully completed the course or were recommended by the instructors to become SI Leaders. SI Leaders encourage group learning of course material. During these study sessions, the leader and students will review class notes, discuss class material, and work on the study skills needed to master the subject matter.

Necessary qualities to be a SI Study Group Leader:
- Undergraduate USI student
- Overall USI grade point average of 3.0 or above
- Previously completed the target class before, ideally from the same instructor
- Received final course grade of A or B in the SI target class
- Maintain availability in the schedule for the SI sessions
- Display excellent communication skills
- Dependable, friendly, nonjudgmental
- Enjoy the target class subject and share information with others
