When a formal resolution process is chosen to resolve complaints of harassment or discrimination, we utilize trained investigators and decision-makers from the USI community. Working together, our full-time trained investigator, Anitra Murphy, and another USI community member conduct interviews of all parties and witnesses in a case. Once all the evidence is collected, a hearing is conducted in which a panel of decision-makers (also called adjudicators) will here from witnesses and read the preliminary report. This panel then makes a final decision related to the outcome of the complaint.
Throughout the process, all parties are also entitled to a support person who can be with them during interviews and who can play a role during the hearing.
Our process relies on volunteers from throughout our community. Our volunteers receive extensive training related to our processes as well as appropriate techniques for providing a fair and efficient resolution for the parties involved.
