CETL Staff

The primary purpose of faculty development is to provide support to faculty all areas of faculty work, including the enhanced teaching and student learning and advising, scholarship and creative endeavors, and leadership development.

Amy has served as the Director of CETL since September 2015.  Prior to joining USI, she was a tenured faculty member at Florida State University, in the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering's Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, and held roles that include Associate Chair and Associate Professor.  While at FSU, her teaching was recognized with national, university, and college awards.  Amy also served as a Program Director with the National Science Foundation in the Divisions of Undergraduate Education and in Engineering Education and Centers during 2012-2015, with a focus on student retention, STEM education, and institutional change programs.

Responsibilities of the director include:

  • Supervise all activities of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
  • Collaborate with the Provost's Office, college deans, department chairs, program chairs, and faculty.
  • Chair the CETL Advisory Board.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, and presentations for and by faculty & staff for the purpose of development in teaching, scholarship, and leadership.
  • Work with the Council of Department Chairs and Program Directors to develop and provide leadership professional development opportunities for department chairs and program directors.
  • Organize and maintain orientation programming for new faculty members.
  • Foster innovation, research-based practices, and high impact practices in support of student learning.
  • Work closely with Online Learning and Information Technology in promoting effective use of technology as well as online education.
