Community English Classes

English for Community Members

The Intensive English Program offers its services to members of the community who are not enrolled at the University of Southern Indiana. All levels are offered in eight-week sessions with two sessions each semester.

In order to be placed in a specific level, students have to take a placement test before choosing classes. One can take the placement test even if not registering to take classes.

Please make a payment to take the placement test

These classes are open for:

  • Green card holders
  • Spouses of expatriates who are working in the U.S.
  • International students who are currently taking USI classes on full-time basis but would like to take additional classes for language enrichment purposes

We do consider case by case situations as well if other than listed.

Classes

The Intensive English Program offers four classes for each level: Reading, Writing, Academic Skills with embedded Grammar, and Listening & Speaking. There are seven levels total: Prep, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, Level 5, and Level 6.

Each student's level is determined by a placement test they are required to complete prior to registration.

Community students are not required to take all four classes each session.

In order to take a class in a higher level, a student must pass the class in their current level with at least an 80%.

Payment

Payment is determined based on the person's status in the community. An invoice will be issued to the enrollee, to be paid within the first week of classes. Fees may be paid by cash, check, money order or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) in the Bursar's office.

Add/Drop class Policy

Please read and sign the Add/Drop Policy form we have established for the community classes. Community members are responsible for paying the full amount if dropping classes after the first week of the session.
