USI’s Global Engagement (GE) Project provides opportunities for students to gain a better understanding of shared global issues and challenges which impact our world. The GE program supports study, research and intern abroad experiences which address one or more of the following issues (topics include Public Health, Education, Poverty, Reduction, Environment, Sustainability, Climate Change, Peace, and Human Rights). The USI Study Abroad Diversity Scholarship provides awards for students of diverse backgrounds and identities. This scholarship is intended to:
For the purpose of this scholarship, diversity may include (but is not limited to) culture, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, parental status (if you have children), military status, ethnic or racial identities that contribute to the diversity of the student body. This scholarship is not need or merit based, and awards are granted on the strength of a student’s essays and interview.

USI Study Abroad Scholarship applicants can list in their scholarship application if they would like to be considered for any of the USI Foundation Scholarships. The CIP Office nominates students for these Foundation awards as long as they meet the advertised criteria.
Gilman International Scholarships - for Pell eligible students only

Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) - for high financial need, students of color, and first-generation college students
FEA's mission is to provide scholarships and ongoing support to students with financial need who are underrepresented among the U.S. study abroad population, including students of color and first-generation college students.

Boren Scholarship - for less commonly taught languages

Freeman- ASIA Offers Need-based funding for students to study a language program in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam. Terms: Summer, Semester, or Academic Year

Deutscher Akademischer Austausch (DAAD) - German government scholarship

CEA - CEA offers all USI students an automatic travel grant of $2,000 for the academic year, $1,000 for one semester, or $500 for summer. USI students are not eligible for any additional CEA Vouchers or Grants, however, students will be eligible to apply for CEA scholarships.
CIEE - CIEE offers the Leading Change in Latin America Student Award. They are offering 100 fully funded awards for students to participate in any of their semester programs in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026. With newly added programs in Buenos Aires, Santiago, Chile, and Yucatan, alongside CIEE existing offerings, students have a variety of enriching opportunities to choose from. In addition, CIEE offers need and merit-based scholarships.
ISA - ISA offers all USI students an automatic discount of $200 on program fees as well as other funding options.
ISEP - ISEP has scholarship opportunities aimed at helping you with your study abroad expenses.
Semester at Sea - Semester at Sea (SAS) offers a range of scholarship opportunities to help offset program costs.
