Solutions to Isolation and Loneliness for Caregivers & Older Adults

During a time of isolation and loneliness, Dr. Holloway researched ways for university students in healthcare fields and healthcare staff to build meaningful connections with older adults and caregivers. Recognizing the severe health impacts of social isolation, he developed a curriculum that highlights the power of intergenerational programs and active listening to create a lasting, positive impact, ensuring that every older adult experiences dignity, purpose and a sense of legacy.

About the Speaker:
Jeremy Holloway, PhD, has been Assistant Professor and Director of Geriatric Education at the University of North Dakota and is now Health Equity Professor in New Mexico Highlands University. The focus of his research is concentrated on the social determinants of health, specifically self-efficacy, connectedness and resiliency of older adults.

Dr. Holloway developed a curriculum focused on intergenerational programs that include growth mindset, reminiscence therapy, mindfulness, guided imagery and S.M.A.R.T. goal-setting practices to nourish internal qualities and self-agency of older adults. These best practices for wellness and health promotion address needs related to loneliness and social isolation.
