Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists are licensed health professionals who enable individuals across the lifespan to achieve greater independence and enhance their overall quality of life. Through evaluation and evidence-based interventions, they develop, maintain and restore the skills necessary for participation in activities such as self-care, work, education, play and social engagement.

USI is the only state-supported institution in southern Indiana offering a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD).

There are two pathways for completion of the OTD degree at USI:

  • An entry-level program for students who have completed a baccalaureate degree
  • A post-professional pathway for students who have completed a master's degree in occupational therapy and have an active/unencumbered occupational therapy license (available Fall 2027)

About 10,000 openings for occupational therapists are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire (August 2026).
