Phase four of the Dementia Friendly America framework is to develop an action plan. They have put together a document outlining potential activities and goals to help guide phase four of your Dementia Friendly Community.
Memory Cafés offer people with dementia and their care partners the opportunity to enjoy social interaction in a safe, welcoming environment with others who understand them because they share similar circumstances. Dementia Friendly America provides a manual for the implementation of Memory Cafés, which you can view below.
Dementia Live offers a unique inside-out understanding of dementia and aging for direct care workers as well as family caregivers. This innovative program will enlighten you with a heightened awareness of the challenges faced by those who live with dementia. This experience takes about 30 minutes. Organize an event in which you reach out to local vendors who work with aging populations. Set up tables at the event for each vendor to share their resources with families in need. This is a great way to educate your community and support local businesses!
The Dementia Friendly Indiana Liaison, Amanda Oporta, provides wonderful opportunities to elevate your business by becoming "dementia friendly." This training will help your business learn how to support and interact with people living with dementia. Email aoporta@iuhealth.org for more information!
Connect with your local Area on Aging, such as SWIRCA or Generations, for training to become a Dementia Friend! A Dementia Friend is someone who, through viewing a series of online videos or attending a live interactive session, learns about what it's like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into action.
