The Political Science and Public Administration department at the University of Southern Indiana partners with two of China's most prestigious universities: Southwest University in Chongqing and Sichuan University in Chengdu. Students travel to China for one week and earn three credits studying comparative public policy. The location of the program in southwest China exposes students to elements of Chinese society not often seen by western tourists, including an inside look at public, private and nonprofit organizations. Students participating in the program will divide their time between field experiences with Chinese and international organizations and small classes led by Chinese and American experts.

A sampling of activities includes:

  • Meeting with communist party members to discuss the role of the party in policy creation
  • Visiting a Chinese church to understand the comparative role of religion in public policy
  • Meeting with earthquake recovery professionals in Sichuan Province
  • Touring a Chinese manufacturing facility to discuss economic policy in China
  • Exploring the role of the U.S. in Chinese policy with consulate staff
  • Free time to explore and meet with Chinese students
