Matrika Brown, RN, MSN, PMHNP-BC
Instructor in Nursing
Where are you from originally? I am originally from California.
Do you still practice as a nurse practitioner? I practice at Lifestance Behavioral Health in Evansville.
Who or what inspired you to pursue nursing as a career? Wonder Woman. Since I don’t have supernatural powers, becoming a nurse felt like the next best thing. It’s the closest you can get to being a real-life superhero.
Where did you receive your BSN and graduate degree(s) and what years? I received my BSN from USI in 2006 and a MSN, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, from USI in 2014. I'm currently working on a DNP, Organizational and Systems Leadership track at USI with expected graduation in July 2027.
Who or what inspired you to return to school for a NP degree? Working as a charge nurse in the prison system. I was inspired to help improve others' quality of life.
